As the Policy Specialist at FosterClub and Co-Founder of the Compton Center for Black Life, Akin enjoys public speaking and giving back to his community. In 2015, he was honored as a White House Champion of Change. Akin is very passionate about assisting and educating others about issues facing the foster care and the Black population. At 15, as a participant at Peace4Kids, Akin created “Project Homebound,” an initiative to raise awareness about the tragic homelessness that faces ¼ youth transitioning from the foster care system to adulthood. He launched a campaign that helped lead to the passage of CA Assembly Bill 12, landmark legislation that increased the legal age of foster care from 18 to 21. Akin has been afforded the opportunity to travel the country and educate others on the inequities not only regarding foster care but low income communities at large. As a social entrepreneur, Akin is looking for innovative ideas to address the challenges faced within communities much like his hometown of Compton, CA. Akin completed his undergraduate degree at Southern New Hampshire University and is currently working on his doctorate in leadership in change.
